I have a 1999 smokercraft with a F100X 4-stroke yamaha. Last time out coming back to the dock I heard an audible alarm which sounded like it was coming from the shift control. The alarm was a loud beep about every 2 seconds. Later is increased in frequency, maybe every 1 second. I went to neutral and the beeping went away but came back just before the dock. The tattle tail looked okay and appeared the cooling system was working and the oil level in the motor was full.

Is there a code for the beeping? There is no visual temp or oil pressure on my instrument panel (bummer). Ran on flushing adapter at home for 20 minutes and no audible noise?

How hot was the water coming from the pee stream? If you run in salt water, there is a possibilty of corrosion starting to block cooling passages. It could also be a weak impeller. Has it been changed recently? And if you trailer your boat and can get it to a mechanic, they can read the codes...
Running the motor at home at an idle usually will not reproduce an overheat while running at speed under load..just my past experiences...
