Yamaha Break-In Procedure Question

I just bought a Yamaha 40D (oil injection) and the dealer explained the break-in, saying he had already performed the 10 minute idle step. I asked if the next step (half throttle max, varying speed every 10 minutes)needed to be performed in one session. He said just keep up with the time even if it is over a number of trips. Same with the final step of one hour @ 3/4 throttle, varied.

After reading the procedure in the manual, I am wondering if I should, indeed, perform the break-in steps in one or two full sessions? Thanks!

C.C.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I suppose it would depend on how long one of your sessions is. ;)

The dealer reminded you to run a 50:1 premix, on top of the oil injection, for the break in period, right?

Re: Yamaha Break-In Procedure Question

LOL!

The max run time on the ole duck pond to my destination will only be 5-10 minutes. That would put me approx. three days to complete the 1/2 throttle stage. The jest of my concern is...will the short sessions allow for heating of the engine and optimum break-in results?

This is my first new motor, so I want to treat it nearly as good as my wife and kids. ;)

Re: Yamaha Break-In Procedure Question

Thanks for the reminder, Andy.

You are correct. The dealer mixed 50:1 and said it should get me through the break-in.

Re: Yamaha Break-In Procedure Question

Just let it warm up at idle speeds, then take it for a ride.
