Took the wife and some friends out over the weekend couldent hardly get the boat on plane, wasn't overloaded had the same people and gear out last year. The engine wouldn't accelerate over about 3000 rpm.
Checked plugs looked wet, replaced with what was specified on the lower housing gapped to spec 1 mm or .040". I think I have dirty carbs called a Yamaha delar near home and was informed that they don't work on outboards. I have the necessary tools and ability to do this job just need the instruction any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: yamaha carbs

I just did the same job. My advice it to take plenty of photographs as you take the carbs out of the motor and as you take the carbs apart.
Make sure to thoroughly clean the carb bowl, float, jets, needle and seat with plenty of carb cleaner. Spray it directly into any holes in the carb you see. Wear eye protection or look away because it will shoot back at you. I cleaned 3 carbs and used almost an entire can of carb cleaner. But it worked! The whole job looked daunting at first, but even for someone with little experience like myself, it took under 3 hours. Yamaha carbs are pretty simple to work on. There aren't many parts. The hardest part was getting them out of the motor. Make sure you reattach everything when putting them back in. It helps to take notes to remind yourself of how many attachments there are on each carb. Not sure about your model, but my lowest carb had a metal arm coming out of it that actuates the oil pump. You don't want to forget to reattach something like that! Another thing I wish I did when I had it all apart which I regret not doing is to examine the reed plates. They are right behind the manifold which is right behind the carbs. A bent or broken reed plate will affect the way a motor runs. Good luck
