Yamaha engine alarm buzzing

I recently purchased and transported a boat with twin 1998 250hp ox66 outboards from Fla. to NJ. It was necessary to remove the tower and disconnect the steering, controls, and gauges. Since I reconnected everything, both tachometer gauges have an arrow pointing to the low oil indicator even though oil is flowing. Also the starboard control alarm sounds for a few seconds when I bring it back to the nuetral position. Just recently both alarms are sounding when I engage the motors - but if I return to nuetral and then engage the motors 3 times, the siren stops. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check?

Re: Yamaha engine alarm buzzing

when the alarm sounds what do the gauge visual indicators look like. sounds like the upper station has an open circuit on the green/white oil alarm harness. the remote tank sends an open circuit signal for low oil and will stop the transfer of oil if the CDI detects it. it may be time for someone with experience with precision blend and the control circuits to have a look. a faulty grond in the black or black red wires at the remote tank will trigger a low remote tank level and stop oil transfer as well. if the green/red wire becomes shorted it will activate the no engine oil lamp. sounds like some wiring was not properly attached someplace. do the tachs at both the upper and lower stations show the same symptoms or just the upper station ones ?

The visual indicators don't change on the lower station, they always shows the arrow pointing toward the low oil on both gauges. I forgot to include that on my tower the starboard gauge was not working when I reconnected it. I've rechecked all the connections and I'm pretty sure I didn't connect anything wrong. I'm unsure if the port gauge shows any alarm signal - I'll check that tomorrow.

do you have 2 tachs or 4 tachs ?<br /> lets keep on the same page. define the gauges as port or stbd and upper station or lower. its less confusing for all.

Re: Yamaha engine alarm buzzing

I have 4 tachs. I may have been mistaking about the indicators on the lower station reading low oil. My gauges are 1998 and from what I have learned the arrow pointing to the green symbol means full tank not low on oil. So the problem doesn't seam to be at the lower station. The upper station port tach points to the yellow symbol, but the alarm is not ringing on this side. The upper starboard tach is not working at all. When I push the starboard control into or out of gear it chirps.
