I rebuilt this engine and seem to have some type of problem with the oil pump or something. After the engine sits for a day or so when it is cranked the low oil pressure alam sounds. THe oil seems to be draining from the pump and it has a hard time repriming and providing. This doesn't make any since but if I remove the oil filter the pump will reprime itself and everthing is ok until it sits for a day or so again - then same issue. The oil pump is new and the engine oil pressure is within specs when it primes and runs. Am I missing something ? CAn you have a vapor lock ? I'm stumped - Need help with this one

rodbolt,

I was thinking the same thing. Some engines require a non drainback oil filter. Is that the case, with this one?

Re: Yamaha F100 Oil Alarm - 2000 model.

This was a complete rebuild. New crank, rods, bearings, pistons, rings, oil pump, all new gaskets, new oil pickup,all seals, you name it its new. Don't ask me how much all the parts cost I'll faint all over again. I must admit that I did not replace the oil pressure switch but I did test it. Oil filter is not a Yamaha filter it's a fram. Do you really think that could be the problem? I finished the 10 hour breakin today. Need to change the oil anyway. I'll get a Yamaha filter tomorrow.

Thnaks guys. I replaced the oil filter with a Yamaha OEM and it seems to have solved the problem. Don't quite understand why, but any port in a storm. Thnaks for the tip.

hello
good to hear it solved your problem.
I dont know why people keep trying the cross reference. I have seen all kinds of problems with NON OEM oil filters on yammis and honda's. sooner or later though they will get it right.
good luck and keep posting

Hi Rodbolt;
Would you expect the same trouble from a Mallory 957804 filter on the F100 2000? If this filter is OK, I'll start another thread with more details on my oil pressure problem.
