I just bought a new four stroke 60 yamaha. It's a
carb model. Do you need to pump the throttle a couple of times for gas to get through the carburator, or should it start with just turning the ignition. ( After start up it runs fine )

Also the yamaha mantenance tech said my rpm's were way high at idle, and he turn it down. What is the correct idle rpms for a 60 4-stroke?

thanks

its prime start, no throttle motion is nessasary for starting, if it has to its broke. idle speed in neutral is 850 plus or minus 50.
that accelerator pump system eally does not do much if the engine is not running.

In the owners manual it tells you to just turn the key until it starts is this correct?
On my old johnson i had to push the key in at the same time to prime for starting.

Thanks

Hey g32,

I have a FT60B (2003 carb model) and all you do is squeeze the fuel bulb until it gets a bit harder (about five times seems to be best) and simply turn the key with the throttle in neutral and the secondary throttle closed. Starts first time, every time and it now has 350 hours on it. Good luck.

I do the same thing, but it take about 4 times to start the engine. I guess it needs to go back to the dealer, and have him look at it.

Thank you
