Yamaha F70 - Oil Filter Spill

When I removed the oil filter, during an oil change, an ounce or 2 spilled and started leaking out from under the cowling and onto the plate that is above the prop. After cleaning the exterior I ran the motor for several minutes (on muffs) and did not notice anything strange (smoke, sputtering, more oil leaking, etc). Am I ok or do I need to remove the side cowling and physically clean the inside of the cowling? Can this cause other issues down the line? Thanks....

It makes no difference if the oil is there or not, other than it may continue to drain out until it's gone.

stuffing rags under there to catch most of the oil lost before pulling the filter, is a good idea.
keeps from having to clean up as much.

not sure if tilting the motor to some angle will help stop this from happening, but something to think about( I do not know how that filter is positioned)

Thanks guys for the prompt replies. I did have some rags under the filter but obviously not enough.This was my first attempt with a DIY oil change on my F70. After draining the oil I did raise / tilt the motor and waited about 15 minutes before removing the filter. Was not expecting that much oil to be remaining...live & learn.

a lot if outboard filters that sit sideways have check valves in them to keep the oil in filter so at start up it will pressure up sooner

Thanks 99yam40...good info, did not know that. One thing for sure, I will be using a lot more rags under the filter next time I change the oil.
