I am thinking of purchasing one of these motors to repower my boat. I would like to know what people thinks of the motor.

Thanks

Re: Yamaha F70 owners.

The F50, F60 and F70's are the same motor with mostly ECM programming changes. Same weight, etc. They have a great reputation. I was on a cruise to Jamaica, Caymans and Cozumel a couple of weeks ago, and Yamaha's are about all we saw.

It all depends on your hull and how close you are to maxing out your certified horsepower. I personally like the 75 hp Yamaha, as it's much more cubic inches for very little more $ than the F70. When it comes to torque and boat engines, cubic inches matter.

Re: Yamaha F70 owners.

Thanks for the reply.

Here in Australia Yamaha have a good reputation. There is still a good mix of different brands around though.

My boat is a 5 meter fiberglass cuddy cabin fishing boat. Max rating is 75hp, transom weight 125kg. I've seen them fitted with heavier motors but the suffer badly with it.

I know someone with a F70 on the same boat as mine and he is really happy with it. Original had a 90hp 2stroke Mercury on the boat. The Yam is slower but the fuel economy is much better. Cruise speed of 45 - 50 km is reached at 4500 - 5000 rpms. I don't know much about modern 4 strokes but I'm concerned that this is working the engine hard. He gets 2.5 - 3 kilometers per liter where I get 1 - 1.5 with a force 75hp 2stk. The force only has a 10 inch diameter prop which slip badly trying to push the weight of the boat.

I think your point about cubic inches when it comes to producing power is important. Much easier to produce power with a larger engine and less stress on the engine at the same time. If the boat would carry the weight my choice would be to fit a 80 or 100hp motor.

I've looked but can not find the 75hp yamaha you mentioned. They make a 70hp 2stk. Do you have a link to it? It may be what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Re: Yamaha F70 owners.

I have the F70 on a 17' deep V bow rider. Dry it weighs 1200lbs. I am very impressed about power. Hole shot is great and speed is upper 30's with one person on GPS. No problems planing with full load. It must be propped just right. Max hp for the boat is 115 so I am pretty far off from max. I as worried about speed before I bought it but the thing just pops from mid rpm to high rpm. I don't even need full throttle to plane.
That's the weight of the boat you want to power?
