I have a 1993 Yamaha 250 and the hot horn doesnt sound when I first turn the key. The horn itself works fine. If I try to start the boat without the kill switch pulled out the horn wails loudly. If I put the kill switch clip in then start the engine it starts right up but the horn never makes a peep. My friends boat will sound when the key if in the runs position before he starts it. Any ideas?

hello
that system does not do a self test beep. you have to manually test the system periodically. it is a reliable system but still needs a test now and again.it is designed to wail at you if you try to start it without the stop clip. laugh if you want but I go on 10 to 12 service calls every year that the only problem is the stop clip is not attached.
good luck and keep posting.

Re: Yamaha Hot Horn Question?

rodbolt, thanks for the reply. My friend has twin OX66 motors and his horns scream when the key is turned but they are also much newer. Mine has a pink and a yellow wire going to it. I think one is temp and one is oil. Can you tell me what I need to do to test them?

Re: Yamaha Hot Horn Question?

hello]
for some reason this is how the yammi gods did it, twins self test and singles dont. its in the module on the twin keyswitch setup.
it also contains the circuitry to set the speed limiting on both engines if either one alarms. to test the oil transfer for alarms and transfer rate drain the remote tank by removing the water trap tube. this tube should be emptied every 100 hours. then trim the engine down and turn the key on. it should refill withing 180 seconds. if it does not then replace the oil filter in the remote oil tank. to test the overheat then just turn the key on and at one of the heads disconnct the pink wire and ground the wiring harness side of it to the block. good luck and keep posting
