I bought the gauge on ebay and I have it installed and I'm not sure that I'm protected with what it has to offer, if anything. The digital rpm seems right,While revving the engine the black bars seem right when raising and lowering engine,THE HOUR METER IS ON "o".What ALL does the "set" "mode" function have to offer? The three dip switches under the rubber stopper on the back of gauge should be where? up or down on a 250 hp yamaha two stroke(turz (2001 model). On the lower left of gauge which i think is water temp scale a black blinking bar appears while on a hose at idle.At no time have i seen a green light or a yellow light or a red light appear. This engine runs great and is new to me. A professional Yammy dealer said engine ran great on check out but he doesn't know about the gauge I installed.I was told that the gauge was a 6y5-8350t-80-00. thanks

Re: Yamaha multifunction tach.gauge question

the tree dip switches set the trim for 2 or 3 wire sender. if your trim works that switch is right. the second is 6 or 12 pole alt and the third is for 2 or 4 stroke. no lights on this tach just bars.sw1 is on sw2 is off and sw 3 is off. sw1 is trim, on for two wire sender off for 3. sw 2 is on for 6 pole alt and off for 12. yours is 12. sw3 is on for 4 stroke and off for 2 stroke. the mode and set is for trip time or total time. you can reset the hour meter for trip time. if you look carefully the switches are numbered and marked.<br /> have your dealer get an owners manual or look in the 2003 rigging guide.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Re: Yamaha multifunction tach.gauge question

Hi,<br />Check at Yamaha US homepage, Parts & Service, View Owners Manuals.<br /><br />I checked on the year 2001 and the only manual they have for 250 hp is this:<br /> http://www.yamaha-motor.com/service/manuals/2001/lit-18626-04-23_719.pdf <br /><br />The guages is described in Chapter 2 Basic Components.<br />If You have a newer than 2001 tachometer (so 2002 or newer) there is a hour meter built in. Then have a look in any newer manuals on Yamaha US Owner's Manual online.<br /><br />"Hour Meter<br />This meter shows the number of hours<br />the engine has been run. It can be set to<br />show the total number of hours or the<br />number of hours for the current trip. The<br />display can also be turned on and off.<br /><br /> Changing the display format<br />Pressing the MODE button changes the<br />display format in the following circular<br />pattern:<br />Total hours - Trip hours - Display off<br /><br />Resetting the trip hours<br />Simultaneously pressing the SET and<br />MODE buttons for more than 1 second<br />while the trip hours are displayed resets<br />the trip counter to 0 (zero).<br />NOTE:<br />8 The total number of hours the engine<br />has been run cannot be reset."

Re: Yamaha multifunction tach.gauge question

I need help also installing a Yamaha Multifunction Tach. I have an '03 Yamaha 115 hp 4 stroke. The gauge came with a harness with two plugs that run back to the motor, and I believe 4 wires that run to the inition switch. So far I have only been able to locate one plug coming off the motor, and I believe it only has two wires going into it from the motor - the wiring harness has 4 wires in each plug. Couple of folks I talked to at Yamaha said that my motor should have both plugs, but I can only find one, I even pulled the boat over to the nearest Yamaha dealer and they were also unable to locate the other plug. I checked a newer motor, 07 I believe, and it had two plugs coming off the motor. Some people have told me that newer motors only have 1 plug, but that clearly is not the case. My plan now is to hook up what wires I can without pulling the harness through the hull, and see what functions I get on the tach. Several people said I should get RPM from the ignition connection, is that true? I was really hoping to get the trim function to work. Unfortunately I don't have all the part numbers from the motor and the gauge in front of me, but I'll be happy to supply if someone needs them to answer my questions.
Thanks for any assistance.
