Both the Yam and Tohatsu 50hp 2-stroke triples are nice, reliable engines. The Tohatsu is also available with direct injection.
Performance should be similar, possibly a slight edge to the yamaha.
As for the 25-30hp engine, I've no experience with the current tohatsus or the 25 yamaha. But I've several buddies that got the 30hp yamaha triple and they are all happy with it.

Hi riverrat321 and welcome to iboats.
The Yam triple is good engine but I've known people have some problems with them, usually fuel systems and poor servicing.
The Tohatsu (or Nissan) are great engines that just seem to run forever (thousands of Japanese commercial fishermen can't be that wrong!)
Tohatsu are the best kept secret in the motor world as they don't advertise big but their engines do all the talking for them. I've had quite a few tohatsu's and would gladly recommend them to anyone.

Welcome to Iboats Riverrat!

Use the seach function above. You will find a wealth of information here on those hp ranges. I am partial to the Nissan/ Tohatsu. Both have proven to be extremely reliable. Let your budget and the quality of your local dealer drive your decision process.
