I'm going to look at a sharp looking 1986 19' Spectrum with a 150HP Yamaha outboard today (don't have any more detail than that right now, presumably the engine is the same age). I know that Yamaha is big into jet drives now. Assuming everything else checks out on this boat and it runs good, I may buy it. My question is, are parts hard to come by for Yamaha outboards? (and service I guess, though that's better answered by my local mechanics)

I don't want to make the same mistake I made with my current boat. I love it to bits, and its a great boat, but I've spent most of the summer trying to get a couple of parts in for it, because OMC stuff is hard to come by, especially in Western Canada, which has kept me out of the water.

Re: Yamaha Outboards

Yamaha's are like the toyota of the boating industry. they are very reliable and parts are relatively easy to come by. Of course with age comes obscurity, but I have a 93 200 I use on project boats and I have had no issue finding parts. Good luck on your purchase.

Re: Yamaha Outboards

Cool thanks. I went for a look today (grabbed the engine model numbers, etc, going to do some research). I wish so much that I found this boat last year instead of the one I ended up buying.

Anyway, that's the assurance I needed. Thanks!

You will surely be pleased with the reliability of the Yamaha, that's why they are a little pricey.
