Yamaha parts support ...

Wondering how long and how well Yamaha supports their products (especially on limited run models) via parts years down the road? Reason i ask is that the ('98) B115W i own looks like it was only in production for two years. Power head and many of the parts come from the 6N6 or 6E5 groups and seem to be from a more standardized Yammy parts line - but the upper and lower case is a 66Y and appears to be totally unique. I'm sure there may be cross-over applications on a part-by-part basis, but in several cases i think the 66Y is the only part group for this motor. Just thinking if i were ever to lose a lower unit (knocking wood) down the road that parts might not be available? Just wondering about experience with Yamaha and the odd ball models and availability of parts?

Thx!

Thx Rblt - good to know there should be a few parts out there down the road. I had a friend who bought one of the early Yamaha I/O and he loved it - but wound up selling it quickly after they started getting out of that market.
As popular as flats fishing is getting who knows maybe Yamaha will re-tool for the Inshore model again.

Appreciate the response - Spete

Spete , I have the 98 115 inshore ,and although it runs great , I don't like the low water pickup. Especially in VERY shallow water. Alot of sand and mud are picked up, and it clogs the pee tube. I had to enlarge the hole that the tube runs into ( the little hard plastic piece on the cowling). Every little piece of sand was clogging it up, and I had to jam a piece of spinnerbait wire or heavy mono up in there to clean it out. Now that the hole is a little larger it lets more debris pass through, but clogging is still a problem.

Hey eaglebob - i've had to unclog the pee hole a few times myself. I guess i just chalked it up to runnin shallow. Good suggestion on drilling out the diameter a bit. Don't know if a Bob's LW pick-up would be any better/adapting a regular intake to low water? I know that i can jack that thing almost out of the water and still get great water pressure. i like it a lot and get good service out of it - just concerns me a bit about the availability of parts down the road.

To my knowledge all parts are available from 1983
to date.Have never been told any part was no longer available. This pertains to outboards only.
