yamaha precision blend problem...again!

Well here goes, I have searched up and down and tried many different topics for precesion blend problems, None seem to match.
Motor 88 etlg 200 yamaha

My problem first was thought to be an overheat, as I am still a novice. Then after replacing the entire cooling system still had the problems. All three arrows start to blink after about 5 or 10 minutes of running over 3800 rpm. All threes arrows blink repetedly, buzzer goes off. The usual.

My problem is the oil tank on the motor does not fill. The pump in the remote tank runs for about 30 seconds. and then shuts off. I have tried using the emergency switch, but pump does not run. I thought it would be the switch box it self so I changed the switch box from the other motor. Still the motor in the remote tank will not run. And if I use the box on the other motor it works fine. I have made sure that I have power at the brown wire going to the remote tank and I do on both tanks. I also tried using the remote tank float switch form the port side, that has not given me any problems and still no luck. The only Float switch that I have not changed is the on in the remote tank. Could this be the problem. I think Rodbolt will have the answer for this... please help as the 4th is coming and would like to be on the water. Thanks Ron Sergeant.

I just pulled the remote tank and tested the float and it seems to be working properly. This was the last thing that I thought it might posssibly be...Please help I am out of ideas.

I JUST went through this today. I spent a good 3 hours on the system, turns out it was a plugged filter. You will see it behind the remote oil tank, it is small. Pull it off the tubes and blow through it, i couldnt even blow through mine.

$15 later my oil system is good to go.

Blow through the pickup side of the hose when you get the filter off so you can see if the pickup inside the tank is clogged.

By the way, mine would run for about 30 seconds too, and then shut off. I assume its a protection feature so the pump doesnt burn out, dunno. But man, mine works slick now- check that filter.

I took the filter off and turned so the arrow was facing down and oil ran through it. Was your emergency switch on the side of your motor not functioning either, were three arrows blinking on the gauge. This is a stumper. I am a decenct mechanic and can tear diesels down and make them right in my sleep. Electric stuff has always been tuff for me. And I know it is something little that I am still over looking

the switch would sometimes work. I do not have yamaha gauges, so no lights.

Have you tried sending power directly to the pump? This would rule out a bad pump.

I have switched the oil tanks around and I do believe that the pump in the tank is the problem. and possibly the float switch in the engine tank. As the pump wouldn't quit pumping... Thanks guys I think If I replace the pump motor and the float switch in the motor tank I"ll be in business. Any good sources for these parts around raliegh nc area.

Jumper power to the pump first to make sure it is the issue. I wouldnt change the motors tank sensor to be honest, it doesnt sound like thats an issue if you swapped them over once.

Get a meter and ohm the wiring harness between the engine and the boat mounted tank.

put 12 volts directly off of truck battery and the little pump wouldn't even make a noise. Then plugged the tank and motor that I had tested (and found to be bad.) up to the harness that has not given me any fits. and still nothing. Ok. Then I knew it was the pump motor and not any wiring or float switches. Next I routed the harness from the motor that I had been having problems with all the way to the port oil tank. ( that I knew the pump was working good) and plugged it in and it started pumping so I knew the wiring was good on the starboard motor. One problem left though I wouldn't quit pumping. So I used my digital ohm meter along with my old seloc manual, and pulled the float switch on top of the motor and found it to be bad. I believe it was only beeping in one spot. So I am going to order a new pump motor and float switch. And go boating... If that doesn't work I'll get a primbing bulb and get the wife to transfer the oil manually. Ha Ha.

Not yet just in Time, but if ya get a chance and its free I sure would love to have it. anyway did a little bit more trouble shooting and found that the float on the engine tank (OIL) was sticking in the up position, I believe the floats must have changed from 87 to 88 (LONG STORY) why one is of older vintage, but the float was hanging up on the casing removed it cleaned shaft real good and did not reinstall the casing all is good now I just have to buy the pump motor. I update after I tear the little motor apart.
