There is a recall notice on four stroke Yamaha. The model year 2002,2003 and 2004. The problem is the throttle can stick. The four stroke F225,F200 and F product sold by Mercury marine bought from Yamaha. There is a bushing kit to cure the problem. Recall denotes a safety issue. The only other recall by Yamaha was for the fuel management system. (fuel senders leaking). If older fuel senders are found they can be replaced by Yamaha. The older fuel senders have three screw on the bottom of the sender. The new style sender has four screws on the bottom of the sender.

Re: Yamaha recall notice

The 4-stroke Yamaha 200-225hp models also have service bulletins concerning stalling when accelerating after a long idle ( a vaporlock problem ), and a misifiring when the trim button is pressed.

Re: Yamaha recall notice

There has been only Two recalls with Yamaha product. The others are service bulletins. Recall means the federal government gets involved. This a issue with bushings being to tight. Salt water is being pulled thru the engine cowel and the salt is getting in between the plastic bushing and throttle shafts. Boats have hit objects because the engines when the rpms are up won't come out of gear.

Re: Yamaha recall notice

Brian is correct, but you can feel the stiffness ( actually a firm but smooth feel )of the old bushings even before taking the motor for a test run. I've change out quite a few on new motors.

The fast idle problem from sticking bushings is pretty intermittent. We've had customers complain about a "fast idle" at times and we could not duplicate it. Once it happened to me, but just the once, so it was impossible to find the cause at that time. Too bad it took Yamaha 2 years to admit to the problem, since when we would ask the tech reps, they'd say, "never heard of that" ever since the F200-225 came out.

Re: Yamaha recall notice

Merc is sending out the full throtle shaft assemblly as the fix not just a bushing kit.As for Yamaha not admitting there was a problem its the same for Suzuki. They is a shifting arm problem on the 90/115hp, the arm is to long and makes it hard to engage in gear.Bombardier has a bulletin and the correct arm ready to go ,Suzuki says what problem ?
