the only place to find the tech bullitens is either with a yamaha dealer or purchase about 8 years worth of yamaha marine technical guides.
or simply ask and sometimes when I am at the shop I can try to hunt for them.
the tech bulliten on the centering guide is there it just wont show up on parts smart and will require digging through several years of bullitens.
which is why I told you how to test it correctly and it did not involve pulling anything out of the tank.
the centering part looks like a rubber 4 leaf clover at the bottom of the switch , the feet tended to curl upwards and would prevent the float from dropping low enough to trigger RPM reduction or the alarm.
only motors I have ever seen that design on were the 3.1L motors but I cant say if it was used on any others.

can you describe the location of this, is it in the "dip stick" of the oil resovoir?

there is no dip stick.
the engine oil tank has both a screen and a 3 position reed switch.
at the bottom of the switch shaft there is a rubber piece that centers the switch in the screen.
that rubber piece tends to curl up and prevents the float from ever dropping low enough to trigger a low engine oil tank alarm.
the rubber piece looks like a 4 leaf clover.
thats why I told you how to properly test the oil alarms on that engine and while running that test you also test the transfer rate.
and its not in any manual.
