yamaha side controls to johnson motor

Was wondering if it can be done. The wiring that is. I know that the wire colors are different. My pops bought a center console boat and I bought his boat. Which has side controls. Can the wiring harness be switched? The center console has seperate start switch from the binnicle control were the side control has it in the control. They both seem to have the same amount of wires in the harness. Thanks.

If you had both wiring schemes you could probably get the wiring to work BUT the cables most likely will not fit. Yamaha and johnson use different throttle and shift cables, If that is what you are trying to do?

what kind of johnson motor do you have? i dont understand are you trying to use a tiller bar or are you trying to use the console. i have a tiller bar off a 1998 40 hp evinrude if you are interested and it will work.

no basically I would like to know if I could use a center console johnson control on a yamaha. The cables are not a problem. New cables with the correct ends. Thanks

Since you do not have any of the correct connections you will have to jury rig everything. Cut and splice all your connections once you have the wiring diagrams for both manufacturers.

i could be wrong ,but, this should not be hard,as both motors are built using basic similarities,most of the wires on the johnson should be b.i.a. standard, yellow /red stripe = starter, two blacks, one or two reds, one from bat(power), purple acces. feed, gray tach, now the yam side i cannot remember, but should be easy to figure out, worth a shot, good luck

Want to connect a johnson binnacle control from a 1991 100hp johnson motor to a 2007 yamaha 50 hp 4 stroke motor. I know the cables won't work. I am very handy with electrical. Hope this more info will help. Thanks Oh and connect yamaha side controls from the 2007 yamaha to the Johnson.
