Yamaha Speedo

Same guy 1995 yamaha 150 v-6 speedo does not work.. There is a reading of 4-7 moph. and the other functions of the gauge work . Could ther be a broken wire ? Ialso noticed that the small tube that runs down the lower unit is broken in 2 places.[Just bought the boat} what does this tube do??

Hello<br /> that tube supplies water pressure to operate the speedo. the pickup is on the leading edge of the lower unit and the tube is the pressure line between the speedo and the pick up.

Dave,<br /><br />I am interested to find out how exactly does the pressure operates the speedo. Is that like a vacuum effect where the faster the boat goes, the greater the movement of water and therefore vacuum etc etc. <br /><br />Thanks, Breamo

hello<br /> its a bourdon tube effect. it is a water pressure operated device. the faster the pick-up is moved through the water the more pressue is built up in the tube.<br />dood luck and keep posting
