Has anyone successfully converted their stern drive Yamaha 3.0 engine to Mercruiser parts? Help with a parts list? I recently had a new tri-star mercruiser engine installed with all original Yamaha parts going back on, but now have a cracked manifold! I am taking it in to a fab shop to try welding it, but am preparing for it to not work and am very interested in trying to start collecting parts for a spring conversion project. Original out drive is still going strong, but will be looking for an alpha 1 or 2 for when that starts going. Should I be looking for a gen1 or gen2? And is the carb to fuel injection kit worth it?
Thanks for any help...

Go for the Gen 2 version unless the only donor boats around are Gen 1. Especially if its the 1990 or newer one piece rear main seal 3.0

Transom assembly
Bell housing assembly. Coupler if not present/bad
Front motor mount
Wiring Harness for engine and to boat wiring harness.
Intake/Exhaust manifold.
Outdrive shift linkage bracket with shift interrupt switch. Will likely want the Mercruiser valve cover for the correct outdrive generation.
Riser and boot
Exhaust pipe that goes to transom
Outdrive with 1.98/2.0 ratio standard rotation
Trim pump and trim rams with hoses
Power steering assembly with power steering pump if equipped/present

Not a complete list but the likely items I thought of.

easiest if you are swapping complete long-tail assemblies

unbolt the yamaha drive, pull the motor and remove the yamaha transom shield. remove yamaha wiring and controls

Install mercruiser wiring and controls, bolt in the mercruiser transom shield, a mercruiser motor and the mercruiser drive.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,...... Yer plan is possible, but you'll have ten times the money into it, than the finished boat is worth,......
