yamaha trim and tilt problem

I have a 1996 c75TLRU yamaha. I'd like to know how to remove the trim and tilt unit from the engine. I've read that one of the transom bracket needs to be removed but which one and how? The problem started with a leaking dust cap seal on the trim caps so I replaced both of those. Not more leaks there. Now when I have it tilted all the way up, sometimes the engine will slowly lower down to the trim rods but will not compress them. I initially thought I needed to bleed air from the system and add fluid but I couldn't seem to get the air out because I still hear gurgling. After reading some posts people have said valves, seals, etc. may be the problem. Anyone have any ideas? I wanted to take the unit off so a hydraulic shop could look at it for me or perhaps do the rebuild myself if its not too difficult. Thanks for any help.

Re: yamaha trim and tilt problem

yup, sounds like a check valve to me. low fluid goes up until pump runs dry then stays put. Air bubbles just bounce because air is more compressable than oil. But a system that goes up and then drifts back down ... that's a leaky valve or a cracking oring almost every time.
