I have a 2003 Yamaha F90TLR. While the following info is about my motor, the info is applicable to many different models that use this common part.

I completed the installation of my new Yamaha digital tachometer. During testing I realized the trim indicator was not working and the bars on the meter were all the way to the top. I found two problems. First, the sender (item #1) was stuck and second the little trim sender cam bracket (item #5) was broken. This is a plastic part and apparently has a history of breaking. It is sort of made like a plastic hose clamp with a tang facing the rear of the engine. The tang/cam just sticks out there and the sender arm make contact with it and as you lower/raise the engine, it causes the sender arm to rotate, changing the signal to the meter as the motor position changes.

There is a new all metal replacement part for item #5: YP-99999-03830-00

The stuck sender just needed to be moved a little and I added a little oil where the shaft entered the sensor body. I rotated it several times till it loosened up.

However, this is what I did to repair the broken plastic part. I cut the clamp off both sides of the tang and did a little trimming. So basically the rounded inner surface remained intact. I took a wide stainless steel hose clamp and using my Dremel Tool I cut out a square hole in the clamp. Once I got the size right, I was able to slip the plastic tang/cam piece through the hole (from the inside out). I installed the hose clamp on the round tilt tube (the same place the original clamp was located) and lightly tightened it. I was still able to rotate it with a little pressure. I rotated it aft and then lowered the motor, checking for clearance. Once the motor was all the way down, I rotated the clamp forward against the sender arm and continued until my tilt meter only showed one bar. I then tightened the clamp. Job done!

I have the same motor. I do not have an indicator guage, but my sensor bracket is cracked as you described.

You're welcome. The original part is so poorly made. I'm glad the new Yamaha replacement part is metal and should last. Although...I believe my repair will last as long as the little plastic cam/tang holds up! :)
