I have a 2004 200HPDI that has a broken trim sending cam. I have the new part but am not really sure how to get it onto the shaft. It appears that it will break if I pull it apart to fit over the shaft. Has anyone ever attemted this? And how in the world do you get to the screw that holds everything together?

Thanks

Re: Yamaha trim sending cam replacement

I replaced mine.

The ring opens up and slips over the bolt, clamp bracket.

There is a pin on the inside of the ring that fits into a hole in the bolt.

The screw will align so you may tighten it.

Good luck!

I replaced mine (it cracked) on my 2003 F115.

Just use gentle pressure to expand it over the rod.

Knowing which orientation will save you from having to do it twice.

I had to adjust the cam (for the gauge) so I would make it tight enought to move with hand pressure but not slide. Once you have it set, then tighten. Use the correct size phillips so you don't strip the threads.

Re: Yamaha trim sending cam replacement

i was kinda scared the unit would break when i replaced it on my f115, after i pondered the situation a bit i figured if i heated it up it would be fairly pliable... so i boiled some water plunked the cam in the hot water for a few mins and fitted it over the rod. worked like a champ

Jim I just replaced the plastic cam on my F90 4 stroke. screw head goes toward bow of boat and is below the tilt tube shaft. If you go to Yamaha parts you can see the drawing with this part in it.

Re: Yamaha trim sending cam replacement

Thanks alot for the help. The hardest part was the screw. Works great though.
