There's a 9.9 yamaha 4 stroke for sale-the guy says it starts readily enough-but only on one cylinder, smokes, then the second one kicks in several minutes later. Is this serious or just in need of adjustment?

I would suspect a temp sensitive part in the ignition that has to get warm before it can work, but there are a lot of other things that could be wrong.

If I bought it it would have to be a parts-motor price.

another thread posted today also on a 9.9 suggested it could be an oil pressure switch-it sounds similar-any opinions?

I fail to see how an oil pressure switch would cause one cylinder (only) to not fire.

What changes is the temp, then both run. Electronic devices frequently work or don't work depending on temp.
