Geraint, I think youll have the same problem that we, yamaha non-US models owners, have. The number you have is a model code not used in the US and popular descriptions accessible on the net do not always apply. On several occasions I saw, that the engine year not only was difficult to pinpoint, but suggested year was simply way out of real range. As an example I can tell you that the code chart Trent probably used, indeed says 74-79 for your engine, but also says 1982- for mine, while it is 1994. Well, the 1994 actually is 1982-

... Your engine may very well be 74-79, but I strongly recommend you call your yamaha dealer to have the ultimate answer.
