Might be 1993, but not 100% sure.. <br /><br />I believe the "A" in the 28AE designates the model year as being 1993.

Geraint, I think you’ll have the same problem that we, yamaha non-US models’ owners, have. The number you have is a model code not used in the US and popular descriptions accessible on the net do not always apply. On several occasions I saw, that the engine year not only was difficult to pinpoint, but suggested year was simply way out of real range. As an example I can tell you that the code chart Trent probably used, indeed says 74-79 for your engine, but also says “1982-“ for mine, while it is 1994. Well, the 1994 actually is “1982-“ ... Your engine may very well be 74-79, but I strongly recommend you call your yamaha dealer to have the ultimate answer.
