Hello To All and Happy New Year. I wanted some Input on Ring-Free.Your supposed to put it in your tank when you fill up.I guess it helps keep your motor cleaner internally. I have not been using it. It says on the label you can add a heavier dose of this ring free to clean out motor,I guess decarb it. It says I must change oil just after doing it. This would be a perfect time for the 300 Hr Tune-up. Does this sound Like A good Or Bad Idea?Any Input most appriciated.Thanks..Twin Yammi 4Strokes By the Way.

T.Z.,
Yes it is a great idea....that's why Yamaha tells you to do it. The F150 is a great motor, and as a 4-stroke you don't have but a fraction of the carbon buildup of a 2-stroke, but you do have some, especially on the valves and to a lesser extent, the rings. Just follow the 'shock' treatment instructions on the bottle and then change the oil after you run the engine for about a day(4 hrs). It isn't so bad on the oil as the 'instant' products like yama's decarb spray or merc's 'power tune', which are applied thru the carbs or throttle body and tend to 'wash' thru and past the rings. I would only shock treat about 15 gals. or so, then refill the tank with normal treatment after oil change. your F150 will give you hundreds and hundreds of hrs if taken care of....

OK Thats what I will do. Yes these are some sweet motors,I love them. The spark plugs where just changed 100 hours ago. Will it be nesseccary to change those also after the the shock treatment? Once again thanks for the input... T.Z.

According to my dealer, Ringfree is especially helpful in engines that see a lot of idling as in trolling. Temps fall off and there can be a bit of carbon build-up. Running it at WOT on the way out and in helps a lot. F150's like rpm. Prop them for 5700-5800rpm, WOT.

I put 262 hours on my new F150 in three months. Nothing wrong with the spark plugs yet.

Re: Yami 4Stroke150

I use Sea Foam for this...I used to use it in my old 2-stroke, and I heard that it is basically the same as Ring Free (please feel free to correct me if your opinion differs). After 230 hrs (I bought it at 100hrs), I sprayed it directly into the cyclinders and let it soak for 5hrs. Started it up, and only pure white smoke...(my 2-stroke would blow a dark black cloud that covered my garage door one time)....and I troll ALOT. It seems that these 4-strokes are great on the carbon bulid up. I plan to run a bottle through the tank on my next trip and then change the oil. But never the less, after a decarb, my motors have always ran so much smoother..... BTW, if you check your plugs after a decarb, they are cleaned in the process.
