I found a boat nearly just what I'm looking for. The boat is powered by a 1991 Yammy VG 200.

In the motor information listed, the seller say's it cruses at 3600 rpm's, while the rpm max is 4400. I find the max rpm to be quite low, as later model's have the 4500 to 5500 rpm operating range, like Johnson's and Evinrude's.

The way I figure, is seems the prop is way over pitched. I have a lot of mechanical experience and operation time with JonnyRudes, but very little with Yamaha's.
Is my thinking correct?

One other thing, this VG200 is said to have 400 hours on it. Again I'm not familar with Yammy's, so I am wondering what the life span is of one of this type, that hopefully has been properly maintained.

Thanks in advance.

...Bob in Calif...

Re: Yammy performance question. ???

beats us.
it could be overpropped or it could be broke. I would run it up on the dyno or proper test wheel to insure the motor can make power before I made a decision like that.
good luck and keep posting

rodbolt........

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I suspect the prop is overpitched, which is not uncommon for that kind of performance.

I have a phone number for the seller of the boat, which would make it easier for me, as the boat in located about 400 miles away from me, in southern California. :( If you have ever driven down there, you would try to get additional information , via land line too. :D

...Bob in Calif...
