Welcome back stateside man. What branch were you in? Marine Corps here. Let me know when your ready to restore that exterior gelcoat. I can point you in the right direction on that for sure.

Whats your over all plans? You going to gut her and make sure stringers and transom is solid first?

Army here. (weekend warrior) I have been in a little while. I will definitely like to learn how to do gelcoat. This Rinker (Rinker 2), the hull is in better shape . But I would still like to know non the less. Thanks.

I plan on cleaning it up and keeping it. I dont like cheap (quality) fixes. I am pretty sure the Rinkers of this time had fiberglass stringers. The transom looks pretty good. I am a decent mechanic and hot rodder. So cosmetics and maybe some performance. Yes I know, I have read there is nothing for the 3.0.

YS, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's more than likely your boats stringers are Wood encased in Fiberglass. If your transom is rotten then there is a very high probability that the stringers are bad as well. Very few boat manufacturers had All Glass stringers until the turn of the Century. I know for sure the 1990 models did NOT so the 1987 models probably did not have them either.

Here is the pic of the holes I drilled in the stringers. No wood just foam.

Welp, I've been wrong before sooo... from your pics it appears that your stringers could be engineered foam filled stringers.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

I pulled the carpet up today, For some reason I was thinking my boat was not going to have anything really wrong. Nope. The floor is wet in the starboard corner. the front is pretty rough too. I will cut it out and install a new deck .

Sorry to here that, but its kinda a normal thing that if a boat has carpet, it probably has rott. Unfortunately most boat builders just didn't care about anything but sales. But no worries, you can make it better than new. Just be prepared to see the worse when you pull the deck up. You haveing foam stringers, you might get lucky. Good luck

OK, I pulled the floor up. It was not a awful as I thought it would be. The foam was wet. from the transom forward for about 5 feet. There is no way for the water to leave once it is on the outside of the stringers. Yes this boat has fiberglass cover foam stringers. There is a 1/2 ply on the top of the stringer but thats it for wood. Even the transom only has wood in the center.

The floor is about ready, I have painted the underside of the new deck. Here is picture of the ski locker cover. I just got done sanding that and couple coats of Watco. I think I will try it again with the other cover and see if I can do better.
