Paint is done. I tried the roll on technique, turned out pretty good. A couple of spots to clean up but not bad.

The Teak transom cover is near complete. The home made filler worked great. Pic still coming.

Here is the cover. I need some finishing touches and install. I think over the winter I will do a Teak engine cover.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

sooo, I replaced the points and then could not get it to idle. Then it started to overheat. (turned out to be impeller) replaced that, now still cant get it to idle below 2 grand. I am not sure if I messed up the timing or the idle circuit is not working. ARGH.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

odd, after taking the carb off I found one of the butterflies bent. The idle is better now (not great) but cranking over is really tough. This weekend has been rough, I'm fairly certain the West marine battery I bought is junk. And broke a prop. Somebody remind me this is FUN.

This is FUN!...
This is FUN!...
No really, This is FUN!:D
Remember...B.O.A.T.= Best Of All Times!:joyous:
Try and forget the other saying...

OK...so...? butterfly bent??? How in the world? you need to find the cause...manifold opening not matching up, some kind of obstruction...?
When you say cranking over is really tough...is it because the battery is weak? Have you checked to see if the carb is dripping fuel while at idle?
Does it give a nice smooth squirt, when you open the throttle all the way?
Bummer on the prop:grumpy:...Sorry that part is not so much fun...
Have a better weekend...:)

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

Its possible the manifold caused it, opening IS off a touch. It appears to me that someone jammed a screw driver down the carb. It was on the front barrel dripping. after the cleaning that went away. It would not idle below 2 grand, Now its at 1000.

I think I have some less than wonderful connections which doesn't help.

Checked the timing (again) appears good. The book say its suppose to be 6 degrees advanced at 600RPM. I have have a hard time thinking my 3.0 will idle that low. Thanks for the pep talk, it helps!!!

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

My engine needed some bling. It may not make it faster but it looks faster.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

I think the engine is working good. I will no more once the hard water is gone. I did start it about 2 weeks ago, it seemed happy. I did have a battery issue in the fall.
