Year from Serial Number

I've tried using the charts to figure out the year of my Mercuiser 3.0, but I'm pretty dense....I think it's a 1989 (lady I bought it from swears it's a 90)...but I just wanna make sure. The serial number is C762101...that's what the tag by the starter says. Any help is appreciated.

Serial number says its a 454 with a Borg Warner trans 1988 -1992 With a Hurth trans 1989- 1992

That's weird. A 454? It's definitely a 3.0. I read somewhere that the serial numbers started getting a 0 in front of them at some point. It's not on that tag by the starter, but would 0C762101 make more sense?

It's a 1989 3.0.

the 0 wouldn't matter, as it is dropped when searching serial number anyway. Here's a link, you can post your serial number in and it shows it as a 1989 3.0 Mercruiser.
