Year & Make of Motor?

HI, Great Forum!

I recently was given a boat with motor but need to repair pull chord recoil. My question is- Can anyone here help me figure out what year, make & model the motor is? The motor have been completely painted white (guess he thought it would look newer). The only information I could find on the cowling was the serial# 8591276/ MAA068255. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can't help with those numbers (Suspect it's a Mercury though). Can you post some pics of it?? Some with the hood off, too...If you need help posting pics, check the link out below:

What brand of spark plugs does it have in it? If NGK, it's probably a Mercury. If Champion, Most likely a Johnson/Evinrude product. Look on the ignition parts for brand name equip...

Is there any other information I can provide that will help identify this motor? The motor is a simple fix but I need to know what kind of motor/year it is in order to obtain parts. Thanks for all the help.

ok, it's a johnson/evinrude. take the cover off, latch or the rear underneath, pull down. on top rear if the engine should be a quarter size disc, with numbers on it. post these numbers. hopefully it hasn't been painted. if it has carefully take some ez off oven cleaner and clean it. it's suppose to take paint off. number a re stamped into the disc

Can't tell from that serial number. Would need a model number to help. It is an Evinrude though...

it should have been on the dics also. unless it has been replaced.
