Year of 40 horsepower Johnson VRO

I'm looking at buying a boat with this motor on it. Not sure about the year. Model # is g7421535<br />Serial # is j30tloud. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Marty....welcome to the iboats forums!<br /><br />Well.....first I think the model and serial number are in the wrong place. I think the J30TLOUD is the model number. And from what I can see of it, the engine is a 30hp, Tiller. Long shaft. Year...well...the "O" is not right. The "U" would say a something "7". It would probably be an 8 or 9. Making the engine an 87 or 97'. Could ya' take a closer look? You can look on the block for a large core plug that will have the model number on it if the plate on the transom bracket is fouled up. Thanks for the prompt reply. Got the information from the person selling it. I might see it this week. I'll look in both places, bring my little magnifying glass. I'll get back on this.

I think I have the correct information now for that 40 hp Johnson.<br />Model number is J40TLCUD<br />Serial number is G 7421535<br />Thanks so much for the great forum. It's very helpful and informative.
