year of boat

i need to find out the year of my boat so i may register it. its a smoker craft alum. boat. 13 feet 10 inches i measured it today. i dont have the title. as the boat was last renewed in 1996 so its 1996 and older. model number found on hp rating plate was " 14 cfs" i need to get it done by the fourth of july. now i have the hull numbers and decal numbers written down. would the state have any records on the boat u think? so i may pull up an old title?

The state will be able to pull up the last reg owner info with the hull#/state reg.ID#, if not your state keeps lousy records

ya it was in florida. it was given to a family friend a long time ago. they moved. so i dont know what might happen

I do not know the FL laws on boat titles. Call your DMV or DNR .... whoever issues numbers.

If you have the hull identification number written down.....
the first three letters are the manufacturer's name code and the last two numbers are the year. (This only works on newer boats Hull Identification Numbers (HIN) are required on all boats manufactured since 1972)

You can cross that with the USCG MIC database..... BUT just because it waas last registered in 1996 it still could be a 1966 or any other year boat.

well when replacing the transom i took a plate off and it said smk (space) 391 first three numbers and 95 last 2

would that mean that it is a 1995 boat?

isnt hull identifiaction number same as vessel number?
