Year of Johnson Super Sea Horse

I just aquired a Johnson Super Sea Horse, Model #RDS-21, Serial #1870993. Could anyone tell me the year?<br /> Also, concerning repair manuals, would a novice (myself) be able to repair/fix a motor such as this with a manual?<br /><br />Thanks a bunch,<br />BJK

It's a 1959 35 hp.

Hey BJK...<br /><br />Well, since ob beat me to the year....<br /><br />If you had the original OEM manual for the engine, I don't think you would have any (to much anyways) trouble with any repairs if you have any mechanical abilities. Now the key here is the manual. Generics are good for general tuning and what not but don't give you the info you need if you are not familiar with the engine. Generics can be gotten from iboats store. For a reprint of the original OEM manual, search for Ken Cook Co. They can help with a reprint.<br /><br />Good Luck!
