HI, everyone.
(this is my first post, btw.)

i found an Evinrude outboard at a yard sale over in surburban MD & "it followed me home", about an hour ago.

it seems to be complete, appears to be in good condition & was NEARLY free.
(fwiw, the couple i got it from inherited it from a great-uncle & they know ZILCH about it. - not even the HP.- his niece said that ALL she knew was he was using it last summer. ====> i'm guessing that it's about 25HP, from the size.)

the data plate on the suide of the transom clamp says: 25102S-EO2273.

any help would be welcomed.

thanks, PrestigeGunleather

Re: year of manufacture/HP/other info on Evinrude OB, please

Dear Ezeke,

THANKS for your quick help! :):):)

fwiw, i have a SELOC #1302 manual for the proper span of years for the '71 Evinrude.
(i "got a deal on" BOTH the # 1300 & #1302, when a local marine store went broke last fall. = 5.oo each.)

do you think that buying one for that SPECIFIC engine is worth spending the extra $$$$$ on???
(fyi, i've never even seen a "factory" service manual for OMC.)

fyi, i just "printed off" the directions for dealing with a "stored motor" - THANKS for that advice as well.

NOW, i need to look for a suitable fuel tank for the little 25.
(the only one i have is a OMC pressure tank from the mid-'50s that i use with my 5.5 Johnson.- i.e., NOT suitable for a '71.)

thanks again, PrestigeGunleather

If you just want a good tank, I would get one of the better plastic ones that are sold at most boating supply houses - they are generally 6 US gallons. You may want to buy a name brand primer bulb and hose - I find that the outboard manufacturers' are better than aftermarket. Be sure to get the OMC/BRP compatible connectors.

If you are going to keep and service the motor, I would say yes, find a factory manual. Half the time, the requests for help comes here after the damage is done where a few bucks for a good manual could have saved a few hundred dollars. This is not once in a while, but practically every day on this forum.

You can probably find a used one on Ebay at any given time.

Re: year of manufacture/HP/other info on Evinrude OB, please

Ezeke,

THANKS for the advice/info.

i believe i'll just order that '71 manual. = if it saves me a half-hour of time (much less a flock of dollars) it'll be worth that cost.

the H of finding this 25HP OB is that NOW i've got to go get the plywood/lumber/epoxy/wire/etc & "make time in my retirement" to build a suitable boat.
(fyi, i have LOTS of sets of plans for traditional wood/plywood-epoxy composite boats from 10- 40+feet.)

Tashasdaddy,

THANKS, also to you, for the help. :D:D:D

much appreciated!!!
(fwiw, i'm sure that the necessary "consumables" will cost more than i paid for the OB = 50.oo)
