Year of Mercury 9.8 hp 110 Thunderbolt engine

I have looked every where to match up the serial # off of my Mercury 9.8hp 110 Thunderbolt outboard engine, but can't seem to find an answer to what year it is. The serial #3448039 IEKHAFER is on the engine, but doesn't match up to any serial #'s for this hp motor on any sites. Can anyone help please???

you should be looking for a model number on the transom mount. there is usually a tag on there with the number stamped on it. i found that my engine has a plug in the engine block that has it stamped on it also. this is where i would go after i found that http://www.maxrules.com/Merc_model_files/7p5-9p9.html

Thank you very much, I will double check for any other numbers, but that is where I got the serial # that I have from. I went to that website you suggested, and mine should be a 1972. So thank you again, I will see what I can find out from here.

then you have blue stripes and it says kiekhaefer is small letters over top of MERCURY in large letters
