OK I have tried all the internet sources and I still cannot find out the year for my Mercury 50 HP 4 cyl. My serial number is A100255 and I have not found a list that even comes close to this number. Does anyone have any idea what year this motor is? Then where I could get 2 carburator kits and fuel pump kits? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

My 1985 50hp engine has serial number A102150. It has the brownish colored stripes on the cowling. 1984 or 1985 is a good guess.

Any merc dealer can get you the parts. The specific part numbers are identified based on serial number. The kits are not expensive. You can also order direct via www.mercurymarine.com. Go to shopping then parts express. Eventually, you will enter your serial number and you can see diagrams and part numbers for everything.

I have the same motor diff ser# I got the kits from iboaats.com. 2-18-7215 carb.kits and 2-18-7295 needle valve... the carbs looked great didn't have to reset float levels, now the motor starts and sounds great but the carbs are not pumping. If I let it run it runs out of gas, If I pump the fuel blub it will stay running as long as I pump it every 10 secounds.I REMOVED THE FILTER AND SCREENS FROM CARBS STILL N/G. HERBO

Herbo, it sounds like your needle valve is stuck. The needle valve is what the float pushes up and down in order to alow gas to flow to the reservor for running. If it is stuck then you will not get the gas flow that you need. If it is not the needle valve then try the fuel pump in and out check valves. If they (either) is stuck then it will do the same thing. Other than that the most obvioius thing is the fuel system feed. The tank or the hand pump or the lines may be old and causing blockage. Try using a seperate tank and lines to isolate the problem. Good luck.

Salty Dog

you can usually indicate the year or narrow it down by the colour and shape of the shell. the 60s were round and silver in colour, the early 70s were blue and round, the late 70s were blue and more box, early to mid 80s were brown and then red and then the late 80s to the mid90s were a combo of red green and grey. any of these colours match your motor?fishmonger.33
