Thanks to those that helped with my Merc 888 rebuild. She made it to the river for a shakedown run today. The only problem we found was that it needs a new circulating pump and a driver that needs much more practice. It is a totally different beast tham my 16' OB Tri-hull.

yeah, it's dripping bad out the weep hole. That's ok, I wanted to replavce it anyway since it is somewhat corroded and appears to be an auto pump.

And just how many years has the pump been on the old motor??????????? If it is more then 2 years you got your moneys worth compaired to a mercruiser pump (for what they cost)that would have to last 10. Leaking from the weep hole sounds like the rubber seals are bad,the same rubber seals in a merc pump. Also how can you tell if a corroded pump is auto by looking at it?<br />O' well. Enough is enough,dont care any more. If you feel that strongly about it you can buy any part you want as long you can sleep at night. <br />jasonnb; congrats and good luck with the future upgrades I am sure you will be doing.

F-In, my mechanic brother (autos only) is of the same opinion you are and your point is well taken. I've thought hard about the auto pump, but I sprung for marine head gaskets so why not do it "right" throughout. If I''m wasting a few bucks, It won't be the first money I've wasted on buying the "better" part for something. It also helps when my wife, who has learned much about boat engines , says she will feel better if we spring for the marine part. That pretty much ends the decision process for me. If she ain't happy, ain't nobody gonna be happy.....<br /><br />Now, to look into that electronic ignition and 4v upgrade....

By the way, the pump has a Ford logo and appears to have a cast impeller, so I'm pretty sure it is auto. <br /><br />I operate in some sandy and brackish water, so stainless may be good.

Have taken apart many older marine motor water pumps that has a cast impeller with a ford logo on it (thats why I replace with the same part # witch turns out to be a f150's water pump). But like I said "its over,point given,point taken" and always keep the wife happy.<br />P.S. If you want to see overages,check out my post on boat projects/good luck backyarders
