Re: Yellow Jackets.....OUCH!!!

I have run into 2 nests of them, the first one, I was working on a car behind the house near and Oak tree, something kept flying by my head, I was in the flight path, watched, found the hole, went out that night with a 5 gallon plastic gas can, stuck the tube in the hole and tipped it up for a few seconds, no more YJ's, next one I was on the mower, cutting around a tree, I starting seeing things flying around me, new I had had it, shifted to 6th gear and took off, lawn mower is not fast enough, two got me, they chased me about 250 feet before I drove straight through a Magnolia tree, that gave enough blind for me to get away, that night gas can time again. I am lucky, not allergic, the stings do hurt a little but just a small whelp like a yellow fly would leave.

I had the exterminator over here today. He hit the area with his spray and a huge swarm came out. He said wow there are a bunch of them! He said it was one of the largest nests he'd ever seen. He sprayed and sprayed with gallons and finally fewer and fewer came out and finally none. He about sprayed my entire yard with that stuff.

Well keep the pets off the lawn for a week or so. Nasty stuff.

Nice camera system.

It is not necessary to ignite the gasoline, just pour it in and let the fumigation begin...it won't burn underground anyway

It should act like napalm though. I wonder how long YJ's can live without the oxygen that the burning gas would suck out of their hole?

Re: Yellow Jackets.....OUCH!!!

Got stung by both a wasp and yellow hacket this summer. The yellow jacket HURT REAL BAD... I stepped on it while stepping down into my boat barefoot...and it stuck me with every last bit of venom in it's sack.

It hurt so much I tempted to rip the sack out of it while it was alive (I trapped it with a beach towel)...but I let it go. I did question wether the level of pain and discomfort I was feeling was normal, only to read that I should know if I am going to die within the first 30minutes.

Go on youtube and search for "removing venom sack" it's disturbing but it made me feel better at the time. Oh and I immidiately purchased the BIG BLACK 20' spray so I am well equipped now.

It took about 1 month for my scab to come off...otherwise the thing itched like all hell for up to 30days AT LEAST....you will want to claw your wrist right off. That venom is nasty!

And a tip for getting the stinger out is to take a butter knife and run it against your skin...that SHOULD pop the stinger out if there is one in there.

Was it Billy the Exterminator? Since I see you are in LA.

He came the other day, here he is spraying it. Notice I am standing far away from that pile of stinging beasts.
