Update: So you were right. It was a 3 beer job, Hardest part was lining up the boat under the chain fall. Could have used a hand with that. So She's out and safely on the ground. Thank-you all for the great advice. I'm sure that's why it went so well.

So that was the good news. Now the bad news. I was right. And this is one time i wish i wasn't. Have you ever seen this before? I figure the kids that i bought it from installed the new starter and there was water in a cylinder and she hydrolocked. I was able to put a pipe wrench on the end of the shaft and she turns over no problem. I think i'm just going to bust out the rig and welderup! Piece of cake. Ok, seriously, what would you do next. I'm a millwright by trade so I'm not afraid to rebuild it. And i have some friends who are mechanics as well that would be happy to help. What is the most economical solution? Next week i'm going to start tearing it apart to see how the rest looks. So assuming it only need a crankshaft and exhaust manifold what would you do? Thanks again for all the awesome help and advice.

I found this guy today. She's only about a 6 hour drive from me. What do you think? And what is the difference between that and mine? Mine says it's 130 HP and that says 140 HP.

Wow, to have that snap off it had to be wide open and lock up, and being on the flywheel I would thing the drive might have had something to do with it

I haven't taken the drive apart yet but it turned good by hand. The u-joint was ok. I was planning on splitting the drive open to do the impeller. Is there any test's i could do to see if it's ok? Should i go deeper? And what are your thoughts on rebuilding or replacing. I'm trying to get a hold of Dan on craigslist. I think his motor is a good deal. And i could try to recoup some of the cost by selling what i have left over that's still good.

Don't buy the motor if its not running. Doesn't take much to crank it over and get it running (water, gas and battery). Bring a compression gauge to do a test.

I don't think I would try to rebuild the motor. Take it apart so if something is needed maybe the part can be reused.

New crate motor around 2800
Reman around 2000

With the drive being able to turn by hand its not locked up. Drain the lube in a pan, let sit over night, then slowly pour lube into another container. See if any metal is seen in the bottom.

Ok. Sounds good. He said i could see it running. I'll also bring my gauge and test compression. Thanks

I gave Dan a down payment on that motor. I'm going to drive down there next weekend and he's going to run it for me then let me do a compression test. After that he's going to winterize it and load it into the back of my truck. We're not done yet, but i think we're on the right track. And hopefully i wont need to fireproof waders.

One is before they re-rated it. 140 flywheelhp vs 130 prop hp. Its same motor

Fyi, if you pull the head and want ARP fasteners, a Big Block main kit for a 2-bolt main will have all the fasteners you need for cheap

ARP doesnt have a head bolt kit for the 3.0. However the size/length of bolt used is same as the 454 2-bolt mains. You could buy the bolts individually, however the 2-bolt main kit is cheap. Just providing info if you need to pull the head on the new motor

Ok. You are clearly in a different league then me right now. But I'll get there. Thanks for the info. And i will try and pick that brain of yours further. What do i need to do to to put this whole thing together. I'm guessing i'll need to change a pulley and add the power steering pump. Can i just change the valve covers so that all my cables can go back? Or is that why your recommending the head bolt kit? Do i need to change out the carb? What else should i be thinking about? Thanks

Hey Rick Stephens, Bondo, BT Doctur, AllDoge, I'm really looking forward to your thoughts. I'm not out of, or in, the water yet! And Achris, can you change my title to "Yes, broken crankshaft. Now what?" Here's pictures of the new motor. Thanks guys.

Ayuh,... That's an older 140hp, set up for the MC-1 drive,....

The flywheel cover has different spacin' of the rear motor mounts,...
'n the exhaust manifold is different, the riser/ elbow dumps in a slightly different spot,...

Good news is, the Long Block motor is the same,...

basically, strip down the new motor to the long block, set parts aside. strip down broken motor to the long block and put parts on new motor

Will all the race boats, race cars, and street cars I have never seen that. Ive seen flywheels just explode into shrapnel but it was contained in an explosion proof bell housing.. The only broken crankshaft I have seen was on a Black Max that hit a boulder near Staten Island, NJ.Here`s the prop shaft from it.

Do i need to find another exhaust manifold if mine is cracked? I should be able to just change the down pipes correct? Or can i put mine on and wait and see if it's still good? Can i test it somehow? Thanks

So everything should swap without any issues. Sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks
