Ok long story short. Dad purchased boat in middle 90's. Me, him, sister, uncles, cousins and so on, shared boat for 10+ years. My uncle finally parked it for a year or so. My kids got too big for the J16 skiff so I retrieved this boat from lake murry in lexington SC at my cousins wedding. Ready to go boating! Yea yea!!!...... Lower port exhaust deflector MELTED! chunckes of metal went thru both lower and port upper cylinders. Motor is not rebuildable, at least not on my budget at least that was my excuse for my wife;) We had to run the heck outta that 115 to push this 19 keywest DC anyway. Found a 1985 140 looper in a junkyard in clearwater Fl. Had 155 psi on all four cylinders. Drained some foot oil and it looked black as crude oil and no water. Got home replaced 1 bad coil and she fired right up! Im feeling releaved at this point. Paid a grand so no wimmpering home to the wife now. UhOhhh draing foot oil and guess what...... Water. Ok no prob, I got a good foot right? Nope, 92 has a v4 2 piece driveshaft and is too long 85 140 came with a v6 1 piece shaft foot. Grinded 3/8" off 92 v4 foot and rebeveled. took for a spin and other than a totaly wrong prop it ran perfect, idle was a little rough at the dock tho. Went home with a little more confidence to put alittle more mone in it. So comes the carb kits, a new water pump, some seals and new tstats(orginal water bypass valve, Hey im an orginalist ok?) Borrowed a 13X19 viper prop and much better performach but still a little idle issue in gear. Traded some old 115 parts 140 TNT ( kept the fast track from the 115 ) for a 12 3/4 X 21 prop, a spare wiring harness and stator and a couple hundred bucks. Ran perfect at 5400 at 40 mph GPS could not trim up without airigeation tho. Loving Life! Now for comisitics. Heres the pics! Any advise on what NEW prop to buy is much apprecated. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!. Alot of thanks for answering my questions and others which helped me get this boat goiung again. As for fishing, I gotta pay for the power bill my wife (redheaded irish woman) is running up in her tanning bed since I painted the motor, Women huh, and theyu acuse us of judgeing on looks alone? http://photobucket.com/140Looper

Nice freakin' motor Dude! Good job, love the "approach". Most would have tossed in the towel long ago and spent the big bucks for a new one!
p.s. I think I'm married to your wife's sister

HAH!! you guys don't know what buying a motor on a budget is. How about buying three big twins for the tune of $50 and spending $67 to get all three running. Now THAT my friends is buying motors with a tight budget. :D

looks great!..you know that any neighbor who saw that motor on the hoist will be asking, "Would you care to look at my outboard, it' not runnin' right?"..and if it's not the neighbor, it'll be a friend of their's. Wimmen and dem dayum tanning beds...and if it's not the bed they're having the tan sprayed on. No point in continuing the harangue. Looks like the recreational fuel bill is going up. Have fun!
