Yet another lube question

I have found from the infinite wisdom on this list that my motor ( a 1956 Gale 3 HP) takes Lubriplate 105 Grease in the lower unit. Some people have said that 80W 90 will work, but is a little thin and will leak. What about a 75W 140 gear lube? I am assuming that the higher rating means a thicker oil?? Not quite a "Grease" but thicker than 90 weight. Would this be ok to use? If I have to use the Lubriplate grease, how do I get it in the lower unit? Can I heat it up a little to thin it out? Changing it must be a nightmare. Thank you for your continued help. :)

Re: Yet another lube question

DR,<br />75w-140 can maintain its viscosity at higher temperatures than 80W-90 (temps which your lower unit will never see), but would offer no advantage as far as leaks compared to 80W-90. I have no idea about oil versus grease. Maybe try the aomci.org board if you don't get some better answers here.
