Yet another post on rotten stringers!

Hi Guys, great site and lots of good info.

A friend just gave me a 19 foot galaxy bowrider. The floor was rotting so he cut it out then noticed a rotten stringer section. His dad got a new sail boat so he has let his boat sit for 2 years in a farm so he just gave it to me.

I have read a lot of the posts on stringer repair. I will post a picture of my stringer, does it look bad? I suspect I can just cut out the rotten area and reinforce it with pressure treated wood then glass it?

Does homedepot sell all of the repair stuff needed or do I need to go to a specialty boat store?

If you are doing the stringer repair, you will probably be faced with replacing the whole stringer, not just parts. I would think there are many plastics suppliers in your area. Just phone around. You can use epoxy, but I just used poly for my rebuild. Much cheaper. Just search this site, there are many hours of good reading here.

THanks Rob! I am getting pumped up to get this done. I "googled" my boat and saw some for sale. They are in great shape and I am excited at the opportunity to try to get mine into the same condition. My kids are excited too! They are all under 5 and can't wait to get on the water and do some fishing!

I just read up on Seacast and it will not bond to wood. looks like I will have to remove the whole stringer if I want to use it. I do not really want to do that since I will have to but the floor which is fine at the bow. But, if you want something done right, the hard way is usually the right way.
