I would like to get a newly acquired 3hp Sea King in running shape.
Serial #85X713122
Model #GG8962A

Looks like a 1958.

I tooK the carb of and blew cleaner thru the ports. I am getting fuel to the carb, hold the float button down for 5 - 10 second. The engine fires and runs, then dies. The needle looks beat up a bit.

Does this carb need to go in a dip tank?

Looking for someone with some used parts including the pull start?

you need to take it apart and soak it. all the passageways need to be cleaned out. blow compressed air or carb cleaner through it once it is done soaking. All the passageways. Your are correct it is a 1958 3hp

Don't ignore the ignition. It probably has a bad coil. They all do, unless it has already been replaced. You will drive yourself nuts trying to get the carburetor to work when the real problem is elsewhere.

My guess is you might be right. These are REAL simple carbs. If I blew thru the main from the bowl and the air/fuel mix the carb is probably OK, unless there is an Idle jet/port I couldn't see.

Only problem is I am having trouble flooding the engine, in the sense that I have richened the mixture and can never seem to end up with a wet plug?

Spark looks weak. Any I deas on parts?

Just good old E/J coils and a tune up kit, the sierra part numbers are:
Coils: 18-5181
Tune-Up kit: 18-5006
Impeller: 18-3001

You can get these from either here or Napa auto parts can order them as well.

I guess having the weekend to think about it before I go to NAPA. I have to be skeptical bout the carb.

The air/fuel screw seems wrong or missing parts???

It does start right up and dies within a couple of seconds.

What do you think of pics??

Needle is bent, as you know. The lever in your hand holds the other part in your hand down when turned to "prime", which holds the float down and floods the carb for cold-starting. A spring holds the primer arm up when not in the prime position. And of course the knob is missing.

It probably will work once you get the ignition fixed.

"Float is missing a boat" is a joke?

Yeah, thanks for a description of the parts.
I am suspecting the needle is not properly aligned to the fuel/air hole cause=ing the motor to starve for fuel.

Every bad coil situation I have seen gives me a wet spark plug.

in this case I seem to have a DRY plug???????
