Yet another Trim/tilt question

I have a 1993 johnson 48hp tiller with electric start and power tilt. Motor goes all the way up and all the way down when on the trailer or at idle speed. When underway, I can only go down? Is there any way to fix this or is the tilt unit just not strong enough. I am not sure if the motor came from the factory with t/t. Any help is SUPER.

oh yeah, i checked t/t fluids and they are all filled up with no visible air in the system (no foam or milkyness)

Post a picture of what pump is on it.If it works on the trailer it should work while underway. It could be a leaky valve inside the pump or something on the transom bracket is in some sort of a bind. I take it that you have already lubed everything on the transom bracket. Is the pump making more noise than usual? or taking longer to lift and lower it?

no i havent lubed anything, but like I said before, nothing is binding on the trailer... No weird noises, other than when it tops or bottoms out but I think that is normal. Check out the pictures here. Also, i was thinking about converting from tiller to a remote setup, would it be easy (cheap) to do on this particular motor? What is the red plug inside engine compartment for? Thanks for your expertise.

I believe that is a tilt only system, not made to trim the motor while underway.
It won't let you lift the motor over a certain speed.

Whats the engine model and serial number? We can try to look it up on the BRP website.
The units with power trim have a total of 3 pistons that lift,2 for trim and the one in your picture that tilts the engine.
The red plug is for the remote controls.I'm sure it could be added if you buy all the parts.

Here is a diagram of that model number.Part#24 is the tilt assembly, says touch trim whatever that means.Interesting.
They do make remote kits for it.
