YMIS Question

I have a 1992 yamaha 3 cyl. 60hp engine with a YMIS system. I'm curious if there is a movable timer base on this or is it stationary. The engine is running funny and doesn't sound like it is advancing. There is a spot on the linkages where there would normally be a arm connecting to the trigger base but this one doesn't have the arm. So I'm just curious if the triggers are stationary and instead controlled by the computer, thanks.

Re: YMIS Question

I just wanted to update this. I found it is actually about a 2003-2004 engine and the timer base is supposed to stay stationary but controlled by the computer. 60TLRB is what I believe the engine model number is. I was using my timing light to make sure it was advancing which it was. I did find that a little over idle the spark would start to kick out and the engine would begin to miss. I was nowhere near where the rev limit should kick in but am wondering if anyone is familiar with this system and if there is a common cause for this. Or just any advice at all.

Re: YMIS Question

A service/repair manual for your motor will give you all the steps for testing, the specs, and the proper equipment to test properly for loss of spark.
You need to check the inputs and outputs of the CDI with a Peak reading volt meter designed for these ignition system or a DVA adapter with a regular meter

Re: YMIS Question

Ok thanks. I disconnected the oil sensor and the temp sensor but it still did the same thing. Any idea if there is a common cause for it to run good at idle but break up after raising the rpms a bit? Other than that, I will have to get the tools you mentioned.
