Well, if I drank, which I don't, I doubt my wife would allow rum in the house. That was her mother's favorite. She was alcoholic, and killed in a drunk-driving incident 10 years ago.

Sorry, but consider this a 'don't drink and drive' (or boat) reminder.......

;):)

Re: Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of..............

I always have gotten the worst hangover (headache) from rum from sissy drinks. Thus avoid it now. Hind sight is It was used in sissy drinks adding lots more sugar.

Quite right. I was on a big Absolute/lemonade kick but was getting tremendous headaches from the County Time lemonade...too much sugar. I switched to the bottled Simply Lemonade...no issue. With the rum, I mix Sierra Mist soda with it. Nothing but the natural sugars and no headaches!

One of the biggest contributors to headaches is the lack of hydration in the brain. Alcohol draws the water from the body and leaves you dehydrated. Swig down a bottle of water every couple of drinks and see if you don't wake up feeling fine...

Try Don Julio ^^^^^ Patron is harsh in comparison if you ask me.

Sorry for hijack NW, but here's another one  Do you guys really believe certain liquors cause different or worse hangovers? I've always had a hard time getting my head around that. I can maybe handle that sugar and the other components to a drink (mixers) might change how Alcohol is handled by the body, but isn't the grain alcohol chemically the same? Whether it's 3.2 beer or Everclear?

So called "head and tails" alcohols cause hangover symptoms (and foul taste) more than anything (besides dehydration). This page can describe the heads and tails much better than I can. They're a byproduct of poor distillation technique.

EDIT: probably should have read the whole thread before I posted the same infomation, huh?

I like Black Heart and Sailor Jerry quite a bit but for the price I dont' think good ole Captain Morgan can be beat.

I'm a rum fan but don't like many of the spiced versions. Came across Conch Republic, light and dark. I like the dark version better...it has a very mild spice, but it is more like chocolate than vanilla...and I mix it with Mist. The best part is it's very inexpensive. There will be a "tasting" at the June 9th get together (you know who I'm talkin to:D)

Found my favorite last year, Its Cruzan Single Barrel. A little more expensive than Lambs, but has a better taste and is smoother. I find with Lambs I get a sharp feeling in the back of my throat. Almost like the beginning of a cold. Its the only brand I have found that with.

Not a rum sipper, but don't mind it in a mixed drink.
On several cruises I have picked up bottles to bring home. Prices for Appleton Reserve stuff in Jamaica were stupid low.

I do have 1 one rum drink I REALLY like. Crisma cream rum from Barbados. It's on the same idea as Bailey's, but IMHO better.
Have not found it anywhere in the states....

Nice review on it;

Edit:
There was one rum I tried that I will sip.... It was so good I forgot about it :D
Ron del Barrilito from Puerto Rico. Nice rummy flavored rum, and just the right amount of burn.

For many years I thought Ron was the first name of Mr. Bacardi. When I started traveling the Spanish speaking Carib countries I thought "geeez...every Rum makers name is Ron". Not until I started studying Spanish did I realize ron is rum.

I also like the "Rum in the little barrel" :D

If you're going on the cheap, try Sailor Jerry's. Good stuff and you can get a handle for about $20 depending on your state. It was the fraternity whiskey of choice.

For something entirely different, try a John Daly - Firefly sweet tea vodka and lemonade. Extra delicious, extra dangerous.

Don't feel too bad Sasto....
I just figured out Ron is Rum yesterday... :D

When I looked up Ron Del Barrilito for this thread, I found a review on it, which of course had the English translation of the name. It was one of those "Ohhhhh" moments. ;)

Yes a very good rum indeed. Remembering it and talking about it has inspired me to see if I can locate a bottle of the stuff someplace in my neck of the woods....

Havana Club reserve or Pyrat http://www.pyratrum.com/

The Havana Club will require you to hop across the border or get a Canadian to bring one over for you as it's a Cuban product.
