Re: You can't "out give" God

(to those who've heard this story before, i apologize for multiple posting. its not cc&p :) )

i don't know if this will help one iota with what ryan & sbn posted, but i felt about the same as sbn's post listed, after losing my best friend, a cousin, in a car accident when he was 19, and i -17. it really devastated me. it took me 4yrs to get over it. it almost ruined my life, or so i thought. it was just he & i in that car, he died, i lived.

but now i realize we had good times & made great memories. he was a super guy, loved by everyone who knew him, always helped local farmers with chores & whatever needs they had that required extra manpower. his life was full. that is what i came to understand.

although it may not be your view, i was comforted by the understanding that life with God is much better than the life we have here. other lives are on a diff time frame than ours. just as we lose those we want to enjoy longer, we also lose our youth, our children's youth, our naivete, and our allotted time on earth.

we gotta make good memories & hang on to them ;)

I think attributing motives from God from everyday events is silly
I believe that is called Faith there Plywoody.

I'll stick with my Faith, its better than the alternative.

Re: You can't "out give" God

Thanks for sharing your story SoulWinner. I'm sorry to hear about your pooches.

Not sure what is going on lately but in the last week I've seen two dogs wandering in the street on my commute home from work. Both times I stopped and tried to get the dog in the car with me so I could find the owner, but both times the dog would run away from me. It worries me because both of these dogs were wandering on extremely busy roads in the city and I've never seen dogs wandering around in the past years, and now 2 in the span of 1 week.

I read the following article yesterday and thought it was interesting. My dog sure doesn't bite but I can imagine that she gets a little stressed this time of year. She sure is a creature of habit and in the winter months she does get walked less and our scheduals are less predictable for her.

Even Dogs Get the Blues at Holiday Time

Dec 10, 10:07 am ET

DALLAS (Reuters) - The strain of the holidays can become too much for family dogs and when they get the Christmas blues, they may bite back.

According to Kent Robertson, manager of Animal Services for the city of Dallas, pet bites go up by about 10 percent during the holiday season as dogs overwhelmed by a flood of visitors and new activity around the house may mark the holidays by biting.

"I suspect everywhere around the United States, there is an increase in dog bite activity. Families are getting together and you have active youngsters running around, and they may often provoke dogs to bite," Robertson said.

He said children under age 15 were the most-common victims of bites. Robertson recommends keeping dogs away from the fray when the house is full of holiday revelers.

The holidays are just not a good time for the family dog. There are the dangers of poisonous plants such as the poinsettias and mistletoe, and the possibility of knocking over the tree, destroying ornaments and perhaps setting off a fire. Dr. Katherine Houpt, the director of the Animal Behavior Clinic at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine said that she had not seen figures on increased dog bites during the holidays, but she agreed the family dog was likely to find itself off-kilter around the end of the year.

"The dogs are seeing all these new people in the house and their owners do not have time to walk them. There is a change in their owners' attitude and schedule," Houpt said.

Re: You can't "out give" God

I really dread the day thay that my wife and I will lose our first pet, a 48lb female Husky named Fancy. She is only 6 so hopefully we have many more years.

Plywoody, different Christians have different beliefs. Don't be hasty to judge all by the acts of a few.

SoulWinner, it's not exactly what you are looking for, but have a look at Rev. 5:13, otherwise, there is a discussion on the subject here (not advocating anything in the discussion, just saw it) Pet Discussion

As for 9/11, God was exactly where he always is. Watching over us. I won't question his plans as I believe in his plan of Salvation and that Grace is sufficient. If I ever question that, the healthy 3 week old little girl and mom at home will continue to remind me. My brother tried to tell me something years ago and it never sunk in. He tried to tell me that you understand life more after witnessing the birth of a child than you ever thought you would before. He was right.

Re: You can't "out give" God

Its not that I think the whole "God" thing is crap., I go to his house with my family almost every week.

If I ever said their was no such thing to my parents they would most likley smack me.

I just have a hard time buying the whole thing, all this bad stuff happens and he is "looking over us" ever since my cousant/bestfriend killed himself when he was in 8th grade I questioned the whole thing.

When you know your gonna die, or a loved one has passed on, its nice to think of it that way,, but I have a hard time with it.

Re: You can't "out give" God

In a three month period I lost my wife, best friend, house, truck, dog, and job for no reason. I was devastated. I spent a week in a state of depression that saw me lose 12lbs, and not be able to leave my bedroom. I cursed that God would do this to me. I swore him off. Fortunately, he didn't swear me off.

He had provided me with good parents, who instilled the value of work, education, honesty, and an ability to trust in ourselves. He also left me a friend in the VP of sales who immediately hired me back.(Step 1) He also left me, a little 17ft boat.(Step 2) I worked out alot of anger and frustration on that boat. I found new friends, a woman who loves me (I met on the boat),(step 3) bought a new dog who is the most wonderful companion a man could ask for,(step 4) and something I didn't have before, a compassion for those who are hurting or in pain. I now have a new appreciation for that which I have.

I am still not totally comfortable with what has happened, and this story is unique to me, but hopefully those who have seen great loss will one day come to grips with their situation and find peace.

God is back in my life because he never left. I wish that all who struggle with their losses can one day find the same consolation.

Re: You can't "out give" God

Being a Christian isn't about a state of being, its a journey with a great destination.

That being said, my faith has been shaken a few times and I'm a Sunday School teacher. I fully believe those bad events prepare usfor what will come. Sometimes, I have dread for what that may be, but I'm usually relieved to find I have what I need to work through things when they do come.

If we had physical proof of everything, they wouldn't call it faith.

From one of my favorite songs, Satellite by P.O.D.

"I wonder how clear it must look from there to here
No obstruction, this selfish corruption
All in this atmosphere
No fear, less tears, only time to catch my breath
I fail to inhale
Your love constricts my chest
Confusion blinded me, mental and physically
And it's because of you that now I can see
So now can I run? I follow the Son and ride on to Zion
And dance this last song of freedom
But only time will tell, if it's truly for real
Can't change your mind, all I know this is what I feel
Whether I'm wrong or right, please keep my life in sight
And never take you eyes off me"

Don't guess. Know. Get a bible (any bible you feel confortable reading), and know him.
Let's not turn this into a debate upon the existance of God or lack thereof.
It would be more than unfair to Soulwinner and those of us who do believe in,and love the lord, in this time of grief his wife and he suffer-thru right now.
But if you want to know the truth, don't debate it. Find out yourself. Open the book. Go to church. Ask the questions.
Speaking of that, allow me to give you a simple answer to that Tony's little quandry;

John 3:16 -- "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life".

Than, Ryan, ask yourself the same question about satan.... "What kind of evil is loose amoung us, and how do we do battle with it?"

This is but one question/answer, and it aint rocket science. Do this, and hopefully, one day, you can say what Pointer said;
