JB, funny you should mention the water thing. Back in 1968, I had a Camaro that developed a miss in the engine. It turned out to be cyl #8, had carbon on valve, holding it open. An old time mechanic friend, took a 1/2 cup of cold water and slowly poured it down the carb. A few seconds later it ran like a top. Cold water hitting carbon shocked it, and blew it out the exhaust. Never would have thought of that one.

I use Merc's Power Tune on 2-strokes and it's amazing to see the rubbish that comes out after soaking for 15 minutes. You can also hear the difference in the engine.

0.02

Chris..........

JB, I have seen the same thing done with older car engines just as Xcusme desribed. Never thought about it on an outboard. Seems more scarry to me.

Re: You gotta see this!!

It shouldn't be as scary on an outboard as a car engine. Reason? Outboards only run compression ratios of about 6:1, cars run at about 8.5:1 and some of the 'warmer' engines are up around 11:1.

Chris..........

Yea but on a car engine, the internal part of the engine is lubricated separately as opposed to a 2 cyle engine being lubricated with gas/oil mixtures. You know what I mean?

Re: You gotta see this!!

Has any one used "Slick 50" 2 stroke formula in 2 stoke boat motors. Years ago I used it in my chain saw and I think it did pretty good. I also use some in my Ultralight Aircraft back in the 80's The engine was a Yamaha racing go-cart engine. 15 hp. Some people called me nuts for flying those things. But I thought it was great. Are the newer products these days better?

ttp

Hi DEI Fan,
Not too close - Black Lake is maybe about 45 minutes away. It's a bit further Northeast of me up Rt. 12/37...

In regards to the Bon Ami treatment - I was in no way, shape or form recommending it as a practice in anyone's outboard - just passing on one of those old time "tricks" that was heard about over beers in the pits at a race a few years back...

- Scott
