The dealer said that the original trailer was aluminum and that the axles and hubs were shot. Thats why he put it on this trailer...

Hmmmmmmm
I'm back to the smoke and mirrors response again.

Wow, those Mastercraft trailers are a premium price too...I know I priced them recently to replace my old trailer.

They are not cheap!

So the guys on the MasterCraft website don't realize a junk trailer that rusts out in 3 years?
No way in he!! i would ever buy one of those trailers after seeing that!
I know the axles are rusted too...You can see it in the pics..look at the low part of the axle where it curves down. The rust is visible and bubbling under the paint.
Lucky that thing did not fall in half while towing it.
ANY trailer should last well over 3 years unless it was submerged in salt everyday!

It's just sad the dealer did NOT inspect that trailer before risking lives just to get it off the lot.

I hope the pics sent to the dealer makes them realize the lawsuit they barely avoided.
It would be in their very best interest to replace the trailer with no hassle.
If not contact an Attorney!

I bet there is no drain hole at the back end of the main tongue tube where it is butt welded into the cross tube. The swing tongue joint allows rainwater and if dunked far enough any float water inside. When it is parked with the tongue up, the water never get to drain out.

For the Mastercraft forum people to defend a three or four year old trailer is plain stupid on their part. No excuse for poor design.

Use the pointy end of a welding chip hammer and start swinging it at the bottom of the rest of the trailer tubing. The rest might actually be more solid than the tongue even though dunked all the time. If it could drain water properly.

A whole lot of welding in that one spot on the tongue might also have something to do with the premature failure.

In the pic of the tongue laying there on the ground you can see the swing away option, gives a whole new meaning to throw away (I mean swing away) tongue .

I had a big wig from MasterCraft send me a lengthy email wanting to know which dealer sold me that trailer. I think I may have gotten someone in trouble. Im thinking that if that trailer would have come apart and caused an accident and it has MasterCraft written all over it, Im sure an accident investigator might have some questions...

I'll bet every one of those guys are out there inspecting their trailers, if not they should be.

Not to sound negative, but I think you got what you paid for. If I paid a grand for that boat in the condition it is in I would not complain about the trailer condition. You paid a grand and got a nice running boat that needs some work. While the dealer should have inspected the trailer better, in the end it is on you if something happens once you assume responsibility for it by hitching it to your vehicle. Anytime I hook anything to my truck for the first time I do a pretty thorough inspection of the whole trailer, including any rusty spots. Not that you could have predicted the outcome but you would have soon discovered the extent of the problem with some grinding or poking around before trusting it too much. My first reaction to seeing that boat and trailer is that they are miss matched, the trailer is designed for an inboard motor boat so the bunks and other support structures are probably wrong as well as the axles being set up in the wrong place for proper tongue weight. Did you check tongue weight? Too bad though, it looks like it was a nice trailer at some point but was not cared for. I would scrap it an find a nice trailer that is set up for an IO boat of that size. You could probably sell the wheels and or tires if they are in good shape.

Fact of the matter is, its still a good deal on the boat. It runs perfect and everything works great.

Truly! Every time you post a photo of this boat I drool. What a beauty! Even without the trailer I'd give you what you paid for it. Still sucks the trailer did that, though. I'd have never thought a trailer could do that so quickly. have you searched for similar breaks on that same trailer around the net? Maybe it was a manufacturing defect on a small run of them.

I searched the net looking to see if anyone had similar problems as me, but I couldn't find anything. MC had a recall of their trailers but it was in earlier years than mine and it had something to do with the wheels. MC has a pretty good rep and if they noticed something like this in a run of trailers I'm sure they would correct it real fast. Maybe this is just a freak occurrence...

A little smoke and mirrors from the dealer in my opinion.

You probably hit the nail on the head there. This trailer was on the recieving end of a previous owner who simply did not give a crap about what he had. This is not the fault of Mastercraft trailers, or Mastercraft boat Co.. This 'Dealer' that sold this guy this boat probably thought he'd NEVER see this guy again, and told him everything he wanted to hear about the boat & trailer. Maintence is a whole lot cheaper than replacement! I don't care if Mercede's Benz would have built this trailer, it would have done the EXACT same thing if treated the same way this one was!
This guy goes to the MC forum and starts bashing a MC trailer that was clearly abused, and gets some flack about it. Sounds to me like he may have deserved a little of that. But you can bet, he got NOBODY in trouble over there. Dealer screwed him, and he should shove that trailer up their *****!

If I would have bought this trailer from some guy that had it sitting in his backyard for 5 years and this happened, I would have been a little embarrassed to post this because I got what I paid for.

The fact is that I bought this MC trailer from a MC dealer who told me his MC technicians gave this trailer a good bill of health and let me drive off the lot with it. I would have bought the boat even if it didnt come with a trailer. Like I said before never once did I mention that I got ripped off. Im just saying look what could have happened because I chose to listen to what I thought was a reputable dealer.

I don't want no money, charges filed, lawsuits nothing. I just want the old trailer and have him help me put this boat onto it...

As far as I can tell your not bashing the maker of that trailer you just want a trailer that you can use safely.

I don't think the Dealer did a great job of inspecting the trailer, but I doubt he was trying "screw" anybody. That area of the trailer looks like it would be very difficult to inspect since all of the bad rust was on the inside. Some surface rust is normal for a painted trailer and that's probably why dealer said it was in good condition, he wouldn't expect the inside of a 3 year old trailer to be trash either.

I hope between the dealer and the MC rep they work it out and you end up with a new trailer at no cost.:D

Wow, the Road and traffic authorities here would have a field day with this one... good luck Alpheus with getting something safe to trailer your new toy (nice looking boat by the way!).

Don't pay the mastercraft owning snobs any attention, their egos probably
cant handle the fact that their expensive boats are sitting on questionable
trailers. If you don't mind post a pic in the thread I started on C CHANNEL
VS. TUBE CONSTRUCTION, I think there's already a link to this thread. I'm
glad I started researching these tubular steel trailers, it seems they're an
accident waiting to happen.
