today while out at my local lake i had retrieved my boat after cruising for a while was up in the de staging area strapping down securing everything and i notice a pickup pull up with 2 nice looking jet skis they asked if i was preparing to launch and i told them no i was straooing down and heading out.. they said oh ok were just here to try these ski's out just done some work on them.. i wished them luck and carried on with my business then... as i walk away one of the guys asks me is my boat an 85 year model? i reply no its an 81 but good guess tho.. he said i work for chapparall (as i only live about 30 min from there plant that is in nashville ga) in fact both of us do... i said that is cool how long you been there? he says almost 40 years so i built that boat... we were going strong real strong during that time and it is a quality built boat and its still in great shape for its age... so we talk for a few more minutes and they walk over and look my boat over... compliments me on my boat and gives me some pointers on how to bring my teak wood back to like new.. see's the HIN and comes to tell me the month day and year she was built...so i guess i have a POSITIVE story for the boat launch today .... saw several folks loading and launching today while i was there no funny mishaps or fights broke out.. i even let some fishermen ahead of me whie launching this morning as they were fishing and i was joy riding... but again 99% of the folks in this area know each other or are related some way so its usually all nice and polite folks in these parts...

oh yes most definitely...i have seen some follies at the boat ramps even before i owned a boat... definitely a cheap source of entertainment.. i once saw a guy powerload his boat right into the bed of his truck tearing up his boat, trailer and his truck but man he did a great job trying to put that 18-20 ft bass boat into the bed of his truck... of course he blamed the throttle stuck but in actuality the empty beer cans in his boat was mostly to blame he couldnt even stand up with out falling...im sure he looked over at his wife and said hey hold my beer while i load the boat....

Great story - just the way you would like things to run at a boat ramp. I also had a Glastron built in the early 80's, and had lots of fun with it. :)

Yeah, well you were in my way so next time let's keep the "chit-chat" down to a minimum, kapeesh? I just installed a 1000 watt amplifier and 10 Bose speakers on my banana boat and I need to get it on the water because the kid that hooked it up said it would make the whole lake shake when I crank up my death metal. And don't worry, I'm only going to be a few minutes, give or take, so I'm leaving my H2 on the ramp and the trailer in the water so it'll be ready when I'm done. Keep an eye on it, will ya sport?

well if we were in your way then you werent at the boat ramp.. as we were chatting out in the parking lot not ON the ramp... oh and congrats on the new sound system... looking forward to hearing the system... as for parking on the ramp trailer in the water just dont expect it to be there when you return. it could be in the lake or sitting on 5 flats across the road from the ramp if you get to looking for it.

he said to use clorox bleach mixed 50/50 with water in a spray bottle and scrub with a wire brush like used on a bbq grill then allow to dry, then wipe your choice of automatic transmission fluid on it with a cloth as if you were applying wood stain.. i am going to try this on an old useless piece of teak before i do my boat. if anyone tries this before i do please share your results.

I definitely got some teak worth trying this on. Will post the results if I have time to get to it tomorrow.

I hope there is some teak oil you intend to use at some point in the process. Usually a good power washing and some teak oil brings it back to life.

Not that I am disagreeing, but why not use teak oil that was, well, make for teak? It's not any more expensive, and doesn't involve the possible negative outcome of applying a product that is "rumored" to work.

I built a small refrigerated produce warehouse for Harvey's supermarkets in Nashville Ga. and new thought I would hear about that place again until this popped up... amazing. The internet makes for a very small world.
